I can't play the disc in my home VCD/DVD player

1. Check the type of disc, make sure the VCD/DVD player supports that disc type.

There are several types of disc:

  • DVD
    • DVD-R
    • DVD+R
    • DVD-RW
    • DVD+RW
    • DVD dual layer
    • DVD double sided
  • CD
    • CD-R
    • CD-RW
You can obtain this information from the burner device manual, or from VideoHelp.com DVD Player database.

For example:
xxx
It does not support CDR, DVD-RW and certain DVD+RW.

Consider also to burn using different brand of disc.

2. Try to burn using external application.

You can also try to burn your project using external application like NERO / Roxio / Alcohol 120% / etc.

Click here to learn how to do it.

3. Why I can't play my VCD or SVCD disc?

You must have a DVD player wich supports VCD / super VCD format. Most of newer players support this format, but some older and brands do not. See your DVD player manual to know whether it supports VCD / super VCD format or not.

If you dont have the manual, you can also check it from VideoHelp.com DVD Player database. First, you need to know the exact brand and model of your DVD player, usually it can be found on the back or bottom of the player. Visit the above link, then search your DVD player.

For example: Sony NS305

You see that it supports VCD and SVCD.

Another example: Sony DAV-5300

It does not support SVCD. Then you can not play SVCD using this DVD player.

Consider to burn into DVD movie because it is now widely supported and more superior in terms of quality.
